Abstract: This talk reports on joint work in progress with Michiel van Lambalgen. The topic of the talk is the application of logic in philosophy. In the talk we aim to do two things. First of all, we argue that despite the fact that the application of logic in philosophy is widespread and highly reputed, there are still questions to be asked about what exactly it can accomplish and under what conditions it can do so. Second, we discuss a number of concrete examples of application of logic in philosophy in order to highlight hidden assumptions and to critically examine explicitly endorsed views.
