Abstract

The paper is about methodological issues in deontic logic. It argues for three recommendations: 1. not to rely on quantification over obligations in the metalanguage to justify distinctions between normative concepts, 2. to formally represent not only the addressees of norms but also the authorities, and 3. not to accept formal representations of normative discourse in which the truth of normative statements does not depend on histories.
